FAQs

Who are you?

Just a group of friends living in Orkney. We’re from various walks of life, work different jobs, aren’t all in the same age bracket, some of us affirm that pineapple is acceptable on pizza, we attend different churches and hold a mixture of political opinions… plus most of us do have a normal car!

We all hope though, that this van brings a positive contribution to the community- not that we’re a bunch of perfect little do-gooders (far from it!) but we know God cares about humanity, and it seems fitting that we reflect something of that in being a convenience for the community!

Wait... are you Mormons/Jehovah's Witnesses?

Nope, we're Christians. The van is not here to pester or "convert" folk... I mean if you have any questions or fancy a blether about faith we'd love to, but we simply thought it'd be a good idea to use the van to be helpful.

Do you have a dog?

We don't, but dogs are most welcome to hitch a ride too!

Do you rent out the Mystery MAchine?

We can't, sorry!

Did you paint it?

See the About the Van section of this website.

How much stuff/weight/passengers can you take?

  • 4 passengers, or just 1 if the rear bench is removed.

  • The cargo area is roughly 160cm in length, 110cm in height and 90cm in width with the rear bench removed. With the bench in place, the cargo area is about 85cm in length.

  • The van is designed to carry 550kg max payload.

Can you take a detour?

Within the Orkney mainland + linked isles, no problem.

When elsewhere, drop us a message and we'll see if we can help you out!

There's another Mystery Machine in Orkney!

What are the chances, right? Seems like someone else had the same project over lockdown. We're also aware of one in Wick and there's no doubt many across the UK in various incarnations.
